Soroti, Uganda - In a groundbreaking initiative, Clinison Medical Centre recently conducted its first non-surgical outreach outside the facility, providing essential eye care services to the catchment population of Gweri Health Centre III in Soroti District.
The outreach aimed to diagnose and manage patients, raise awareness on eye health, and identify those requiring surgery, ultimately improving access to care for Gweri County's underserved communities.
The dedicated team from Clinison Medical Centre, including an ophthalmic clinical officer, medical officer and nurses. Local Village Health Teams (VHTs) also played a critical role in mobilizing patients and organizing the outreach site.
By delivering affordable and accessible services, the non-surgical outreach sought to address unmet eye care needs among disadvantaged population.
As part of the initiative, patients received free eye screening and examinations, ensuring that financial barriers did not prevent access to essential care.
The outreach successfully served 62 patients, including 26 male adults, 32 female adults, 5 male children, and 4 female children. Patients presented with a range of conditions, the most common being allergic conjunctivitis, cataract, and refractive errors.
All individuals received treatment and vital information on managing their eye health.
As Clinison Medical Centre continues to expand its outreach efforts, local residents can expect improved access to quality eye care services and increased awareness of available resources.
